We’ve all been there

Stuck, struggling and frustrated with our results. Scared like hell to take another step forward, doubting ourself, fearing the worse and panicked by the little voice in the back of our head telling us we “can’t do it”.

In this episode, we’re going to talk about how you can overcome fear of failure and get on with realizing your greater self and goals.

I’ve accomplished a lot in my life and business, but I had to move through it just like any other successful person.

Just like you.

That’s why I’m sharing this very personal, break-through moment with you. So you understand, you’re not alone, you’re not the only one who’s had a “freak-out” moment.

You certainly aren’t the only one who’s thought about giving up. This was my breakthrough day when I learned how to overcome fear of failure.

There I was, in a lump on the floor, staring at the gaping hole in the wall…

wondering…

Did I really just do that?

It was one of those days. You know what I’m talking about. I was working hard on my new business, trying to learn as much as possible and whammo!!!

I had one phone call go awry with one of my prospects and the next thing I knew, I had thrown my cordless phone clear across the room.

BAM!!!

With the loud bang, the phone shattered, batteries flew out and I immediately slumped to the floor.

I was crushed. I felt so small physically (that’s quite a downsize from my 5’9” self) and I was mopping up my puddle of tears with my shirt (and a little snot too).

How had it come to this?

Usually, I really have my sh*t together. I’m a strong woman, but the guy on the other end of the phone had me feeling stupid and incompetent.

The conversation went so sideways I don’t even know where to begin telling you how it happened.

After a few minutes, I gathered myself together. I picked up my phone. I changed my snotty shirt. I mashed my phone back together with some duct tape and I sat back at my desk.

I mustered up every bit of determinism I had. I whipped out my journal and started pouring my heart out.

Out came all my fears.

Followed by all my doubts

Muddled in with the weaving of the terrible feeling of rejection that crushed my heart like a vice.

Dumping it all out on paper was beyond therapeutic.

I began to feel the weight lifting off my shoulders with each and every word. The tears had dried up, I was half way into a great cup of coffee and I started to notice the beautiful rays of sunshine peeking through the blinds of my office.

It was going to be okay.

I knew it was going to be okay, but I also knew that I never wanted to experience those feelings or the feelings of helplessness, failure, or desperation I felt while I was crumpled up on the floor crying my heart out. I had to quickly overcome fear of failure before I succumbed to it.

I had to figure out how to overcome fear of failure, doubt and rejection.

Out of that moment came the glaring realization that the frustration, fear and doubt is only temporary

I read through my journal entry and realized in my business there are “Dream Snipers. These are the dark emotions of Fear, Doubt and Rejection that can cause a slump…either temporary or extensive in any person’s new business ventures.

Even experienced business owners experience this from time to time. They may experience it when their profitability has gone down, or they have a bad customer review or something just goes wrong like maybe all their deliverables don’t show up.

Ever being the scientist..you know I used to be a Biology teacher…I had to break this down further because I like solutions. I don’t particularly appreciate problems, but I do love that they bring about the opportunity to define solutions.

So I took this on as kind of an experimental research project.

What solution could I find on how to overcome fear of failure?

What was I really afraid of?

What was I doubting?

How can I avoid this rejection? And, why was I so hurt by it?

Obviously, I’m a grown woman. It’s not the first time I had experienced rejection in my life. I started feeling rejection back when I was in sixth grade and tried to kiss the cute kid on the bus!

The fear that rose up in me was the fear of failure. Can you relate?

I recognized it pretty quickly in looking at my journal. I was afraid of looking stupid to my friends and of having to go back to my “day job” to support my family. I didn’t want to let myself or anyone else down.

I doubted my ability to actually reach my goals. I was diving into the deep of the pool for the first time…I was a high school Biology teacher and here I was jumping into marketing and sales. I’m embarrassed to admit it, but doubted that I had “what it took” to make the huge strides I wanted to make in my life.

I had big, big juicy goals and at the most, I had earned about 35K a year and I was really looking to break through that 7-figure mark. Could I really do it?

I felt the full force of rejection when my prospect said “no” and I didn’t like it. Now, I knew how all the boys felt (haha!). I wanted to know how to never have that feeling come up again. I wanted to know how to get really good at having conversations so that I was in control, not my prospects.

What Fear, Doubt and Rejection Do To Your Dreams

You see, these three emotions: Fear, Doubt and Rejection, can crush your dreams, stop your productivity and inhibit your ability to thrive in your business.

Think about it.

From time to time have you been completely stopped…I mean breaks full force, 60-to-zero, nothing is happening because you are stopped by fear, doubt and, or rejection?

These emotions can be triggered by very specific things and very specific actions. If you are left unaware of these triggers, you will be left victim to these emotions. The triggers aren’t the same for everyone, the triggers are unique to you and it’s easy to recognize what they are (good news!).

I spent quite a bit of time digging into the causes and triggers of these three Dream Snipers: Fear, Doubt and Rejection. Once I identified my triggers, and a very specific exercise to help other people recognize their triggers, I was able to create simple but very effective ways that instantly turn around the emotions and bring back a rise in enthusiasm, excitement and, most important to any business, productivity. It’s the solution to overcome fear of failure, nagging doubts and rejection.

Using these strategies, I quickly turned my business around from zero results to earning $24,000 in next profit in just the next 3 weeks.

It was a major win and that win catapulted me to even greater success.

That was more than enough to pay for the patchwork to the wall and buy myself a new and upgraded phone.

Even more powerful, I no longer found myself melting down into a puddle of mush or struggling to figure out what to do. I no longer lost minutes, hours, days or even weeks to them. I became the master of these emotions in a way that has enabled me to stay productive and achieve stellar levels of success.

Beyond the $24,000 I earned on the tail end of my phone-throwing escapades, within 4 months after that, I had my first six-figure month, topping off at $133,000 in net profit. I became the #1 earner in my company.

These results aren’t unique to me. There’s no way I could have achieved that success without a stellar and successful team. I shared these strategies with my team members and it created the fastest growing team in my company world-wide.

While I’m not grateful for the jerk I spoke to on the phone that day, I am grateful for the force of emotion it brought about. I’m glad I threw my phone and experienced the melt-down. That one moment led me to find easily applicable strategies to crush the three dominate Dream Snipers…fear, doubt and rejection. Can you imagine your life if you never had to succumb to these again? Whenever they come up for me, I’m able to handle them in a matter of minutes (sometimes seconds) to quickly reposition myself and my mindset so that I can again be productive and successfully focused on the goal-driven actions I have set for myself.

Once you know how to overcome fear of failure, how to handle doubt, and how to move quickly through rejection, magic happens. In business, we call that magic momentum. It’s when our business starts to make consistent gains and then snowballs into even greater gains.
