There’s two ways you can run your business: work IN your business or work ON your business. Far too often, entrepreneurs get caught in the trap of working IN their business. They take on a lot of the hats – finance, sales, creation, marketing, etc. and continue to wear them far beyond the point that they need too with no plan for transition or escape. The end result is 12 – 14 hour days and limited growth. Most entrepreneurs are not a jack of all trades…so even though they are getting stuff completed, it may not be of the potential or quality it could be by bringing someone amazing on board.

There’s a few reasons. The first is a lack of organization. A good number of new business owners are “winging it”. Third, is a fear of “bad hires”. Lastly, is overwhelm. Often, entrepreneurs are so overwhelmed with what they currently have to do that the idea of slowing down to interview, hire, and hat a new staff member add to the stress. If you plan on doing online marketing, selling coaching, courses, or any other type of product, at some point you’ll be doing webinars and need to know how to sell on webinars. Webinars are the online presentations we use to give value to our followers, introduce our products, and sell online.

It’s important to learn how to sell on webinars so you increase your conversions and make the experience great for both you and your guests. When I was just starting out, selling on webinars was the hardest thing to do. I would often times go so fast during the sales process, I’d lose people. Or, I wouldn’t use the proper language or the psychological selling tools that push the right buttons so people buy. Many of my first webinars were chock full of value…so much so that it was overwhelming for the audience. I gave too much content and didn’t sell enough.

I had to learn how to sell on webinars!

And yes, there is a very specific way to do it. There are certain things to say, specific ways to present the value of your product, and psychological triggers that cause people to buy. Knowing them and employing them correctly is critical to your success with webinars.

Learning How to Sell On Webinars

I’ve done over 1,000 webinars since starting online in 2004. When I started doing online marketing, webinars weren’t even a thing. The only real option was GoToWebinar and it was a tech nightmare. Around 2009, webinars really started to take off. With the evolution of tech, the start of Google Hangouts on Air, and the webinar technology like WebinarJam Studio, webinars have become easier than ever for anyone to do.

I learned most of what I know about webinars simply through trial and error. But my webinars got really good, and I learned how to sell on webinars in Amy Porterfield’s Webinars That Convert course. Amy’s course made the different for me and now I run webinars that sell 100% of the time. I had the great honor of interviewing her for the Booming Business Podcast recently, and she dropped so many golden nuggets to help you rock your business with webinars.

What tools are best for selling on webinars:

Here’s the list of tools I use to create great webinars:

1. Clickfunnels – I use clickfunnels to create all my registration squeeze pages. I have also used clickfunnels to run my webinars, however, I much prefer WebinarJam for the actual hosting of the webinar.

2. WebinarJamStudio and EverWebinar – I love this suite of products. I run my webinars with Webinarjam Studio and my automated webinars with EverWebinar.

3. Keynote or Powerpoint – I use Keynote to make my slides. Just starting out, you can use one of the basic templates they have there or grab one from CreativeMarket.com. Once you have a growing list and followers, get a custom template designed on fiverr.com. You want your template to match your branding. For a great how-to on branding, watch this webinar.

4. Social Promotion – I use MeetEdgar.com to automate my promotional posts. It’s easy to schedule a blast of posts to promote your webinars.

The people and businesses who fail to put attention on list building and new innovative ways to get more subscribers, fail to grow. That’s the truth of it. You can put a ton of attention on Instagram, Pinterest, Facebook, etc, but with the goal of converting your followers, friends, likes and hearts into opt-in subscribers on your list.

The name of the game online is conversions. The first step is converting a viewer/visitor into an opt-in subscriber. Next, it’s converting that subscriber into a customer. The money is in the list…and it’s the #1 reason you need to get more subscribers. Yes, you can make quite a bit with a small list. But, if you can earn with a small list, imagine what is possible with a larger list!!

Check your in-box now. How many promotional emails do you have? How many offers for sales? Look at the companies sending you e-mails. They get it. They know that having you on their list is of the upmost value because it’s their direct communication line. They put a lot of effort and attention to get more subscribers.

Those companies could place an ad but you may not see it. They could post a banner, but you might miss it. But your email inbox is checked pretty much everyday…if not multiple times a day. It’s where you are most likely to get the communication, see the promotion, and get interested.

Think of The Person When You Start to Get More Subscribers

There are tons of great ways to get more subscribers to your list. It all boils down to content and value. To entice someone to give you their email address, you have to exchange something of value with them.

This is called a freebie. The point of the freebie isn’t just to get more subscribers. It’s to convince your viewer that they want what you are offering and it’s valuable enough for them to subscribe. Once they opt-in it’s now important that you deliver something awesome. It could be a future discount coupon, an e-book, a training, a video, etc. Whatever it is, it’s your first opportunity to impress your new subscriber. It’s your first (and potentially your last if you slack on this) opportunity to demonstrate that they WANT to be on your list…that you’ll provide more value, more help, more goodness to their in-box.

Blab is dead. I’m sad. It was an amazing platform that got a lot of immediate attention. Super stars like Grant Cardone took to the airways and it was a way to pop-in and connect with iinfluencers and creators.

So Blab is dead. So is Katch.me, who closed their doors on May 4, 2016. Katch provided an amazing service by allowing Periscopers and those on Meerkat to capture their streams for perpetuity. You could download all the videos and then use them as content on any other platform…YouTube, blogs, etc.

Why did Blab and Katch fail to survive in the wild west of live-streaming start-ups?

Why has Meerkat announced that they are on the brink of collapse as well…strategically transforming from a live-streaming model to a video upload model?

Who’s on the horizon that looks like they’ll be staying and playing for the long-term?

Read on…

Why Blab is Dead, Katch spiraled out of business, and Meerkat has lost ground. 

There are a number of reasons that these companies failed to survive but the #1 reason is a failure to correctly compute the amount of effort it would take to thrive in the marketplace. As with many new start-ups, they all experienced the effect of “newness” with a huge upward swing that looked destined for super-stardom. During that initial influx of growth, they failed to predict and correctly prepare for the potential changes that could occur such as new competitor start-ups, Facebook starting their own Live Streaming, adaptive customer usage, etc. etc.

As with every new company, there’s an observe-adapt-predict cycle of action that needs to be taken. It’s often disregarded during the celebrations of instant success and when it does get instituted, it’s too late to change the course of ultimate failure.

First, these companies all needed to correctly observe and evaluate HOW the users were mostly utilizing their service. In the case of Blab, they really wanted it to be a platform for people to host shows, educate, entertain, experience benefits of business expansion or bringing value to the marketplace. What it turned into was a “hang-out” where people would just get on to chit-chat and make friends. What Blab failed to do was properly promote the influencers, push forward the top shows, AND create a paid model. Had there been an opportunity to have a paid membership where top show hosts could advertise and list build right on the platform, it would have been ideal and generated sources of revenue for BLAB.

The top users in Katch were asking for a Premium level with more control of their content. Their requests were disregarded.

Or, they could have simply followed the trending usage and made it more enticing for hanging-out…again utilizing an advertising model that aligns with that audience to drive in revenue. Idealism about not utilizing advertising on a platform is almost always a catalyst for certain death as the cost to maintain the technology for live-streaming is burdensome and can be catastrophic without a proper income generation model.

Did the fall of Katch.me give us clues to the inevitable announcement that Blab is dead. 

Yes. When Katch.me announced their closing, it had us all looking at who was next.

I spoke with the owners of Katch.me at the Periscope live conferenced in New York City. The nicest people ever! While I loved Katch in general, one of my primary complaints about Katch.me was the inability to choose what was “Katched” and what wasn’t. I didn’t want everything I broadcasted on Periscope to be available in Katch for perpetuity. I also didn’t want to spend the time to go into Katch to delete it after the fact. The fact of the matter is that I did some live-streams exclusive to particular audiences and having it available on Katch was a problem.

With Katch, they simply did not plan effectively and ran out of energy and money. They couldn’t secure the investments needed to continue their growth. Great company. Crappy planning. Here’s a screenshot of their growth.

I’ve seen this with a number of tech companies I’ve worked with. They have a great idea, great programmers, and crappy business people at the helm of the company. They aren’t correctly crunching numbers, haven’t thought through their revenue modeling, and are sometimes running on idealism. The fact is, advertising, membership, and creating avenues for revenue generation are what keep a company afloat, pay the employees, and generate the foundation for strong revenue. They focused more on membership growth, which sucked up server space, bandwith and resources while giving very little attention to revenue growth.

Oh Meerkat…what have you learned? I first learned about Meerkat from my friend, Grant Cardone, who took to the platform and, in my opinion, made it well known. Meerkat started with a huge bang, securing $12million in venture capital in 2015. However, the struggles started early and it was pretty much a bumper-car ride to an inevitable white flag waving.

First, Twitter gave Meerkat a one-two punch by denying access to it’s social graph, making it harder for users to find the people they would like to follow and watch on Meerkat. That was followed by Twitter’s love affair with Periscope. Periscope took the front lead backed by the very deep pockets and instant uploads to Twitter.

Meerkat stumbled to find enough interesting broadcasters. They had about 100,000 broadcasters, a fraction of which were regularly broadcasting or were interesting enough to draw a regular audience. Even Grant began using Periscope more and more and Meerkat less and less. Meerkat hasn’t kicked the bucket just yet. Rather, they are repackaging and reformatting in an attempt to compete in the video streaming world. We’ll see how that goes…but it doesn’t look good since their last blog update was March 4!!??. When companies stop communicating, it’s usually because their isn’t any good news to share.  Good Luck Ben Rubin!

Who’s Left Now that Blab is Dead – Periscope, FB Live, Snapchat

Let’s talk Periscope.

When I heard Periscope was being backed by Twitter, I knew it was a long-term play. So, I did what any adventurous entrepreneur does, I got on, learned it, grew an audience, and constructed a course called Periscope Mastery.

Periscope has been on the rise, as the leader in mobile live-streaming apps. With over 10,000,000 active users, it’s still a big hit. Recently, they have made several developments including:

  • Broadcasting from a GoPro or Drone
  • Sketch – the ability to draw on your broadcast
  • Instant livestreaming on Twitter
  • Finding broadcasts on the map for replays
  • Instant skip ahead on replays
  • The ability to watch on Apple TV (HUGE!!!)

Needless to say, Periscope is here to stay and is Twitter’s live-streaming baby.

What about FB Live? 

Facebook Live started with a rolling launch. influencers got it first creating instant buzz and a “have to have it” sensation. Then it rolled out to everyone and it’s one of the best platforms. My videos get thousands of views without any paid promotion or trying to bring in a ton of followers, etc. It’s a money-maker, that’s for sure.

FB live is here to stay and you should be using it. There are many free tools you can use to enhance your abilities on FB live, including Online Broadcaster Services, a free service that allows you to screen share, split-screen, and brand your videos. Plus, you can BOOST your Live-Streams giving you that extra umphh when you are doing a promotion.

An then there is SnapChat

I wish I could tell you more about this super phenom, but alas, I haven’t started using it. It’s next on my list to dig in and rock with.

I can tell you it’s here to stay. Facebook once offered SnapChat $3 billion for a buyout and one of the co-founders declined the cash offer. Whaaatttt???? So Facebook did what Facebook does and set out to crush Snapchat with their own copy-cat app called Slingshot. Slingshot bombed, leaving SnapChat in the lead for it’s unique niche market of instantly disappearing, watch once image/video sharing. It became infamous for teenage sexting but has gained an entirely new reputation as influencers have jumped on board promoting more valuable and engaging content.

Who else is out there….

There’s a slew of other live-streaming apps, none of which have proven if they have the long-term stability, smarts behind the wheel, funding resources, or vision to stand the test of time. We’ll see how Live.me, Firetalk, and others.

And the hot news now is that YouTube has announced live-streaming through their app as well. We’ll see what that looks like, but of course, it’s most likely here to stay backed by the mega-bucks of Google.

It’s sad to say that Blab is Dead and to watch the fall of great ideas. I honor each of these innovators as they took risks and faced challenges few are ever willing to endeavor. While they didn’t make it, they did make a mark and for that they should be remembered.

You want to grow an online business, which means you need to create your online presence, grow an e-mail list, and gain the attention of an audience that would love to buy your products and services, right?

Yes, it’s true. It can be daunting, frustrating, and you may want to break something in the process of learning how to do it, but it’s totally worth it my friend.

I get where you’re coming from…here’s how to crush those worries.

When I started my business way back in 2002, doing anything online was foreign to me. My online capabilities extended to playing games on Yahoo and doing Yahoo Searches for topics related to my Biology curriculum. Those searches often turned up some..well..”interesting” content.

My aptitude for computers was so low my husband eventually put child restrictions on my computer to prevent me from repeating the virus downloads and X-rated pop-up sites I seemed to end up in. Not that I was looking for porn, mind you. But when you do searches for things like “The Reproductive System” images, that’s what shows up. (I was a Biology teacher, remember?)

I didn’t consider doing any type of online marketing until a friend mentioned Google to me early in 2003. I hadn’t heard of it (told you I was in the dark ages) and did a Yahoo Search on Google (so wrong…I know!).

Up popped Google and my first search was “What is Google?”. My eye went directly to the ads on the right side of the page…oooooooooooooohhhhhhh!!!!

Images of instant lead flow popped in my head and so began my online marketing adventures.

I didn’t have a lick of experience, but definitely had the drive to learn it and do it. At the time my only lead flow was the result of distributing 5,000 flyers per week on foot and two newspaper ads. I was doing well…that alone got me to $40K a month in income, but I knew that online marketing could help me do it better, faster, and easier. Plus, I was tired of getting chased our of parking lots by Rambo wanna-be security guards protecting their guests from the possibility of a life of freedom. That and it was hot as hell in Tucson…my tan was awesome but the heat was killing me. I was sweating places you should never sweat and it was making the leather in my Lexus funky.

I purchased a course called “Insider Secrets to Marketing Your Business on the Internet”. While I waited for it to arrive…(yes, they actually shipped courses back in the old days), I created a simple website using a replicated website system similar to what is now available like LeadPages or ClickFunnels. I placed my first ads on Google Adwords and I was golden.

I’m THAT type of gal…I do shit before I even now how to do it and then say a Hail Mary hoping it works. It usually does but I have walked through the fire of some epic failures. Fortunately my husband’s gotten used to the fact that I’m a bit of a maverick.

This time I was golden…Within 1 week, I had 300 fresh leads and my new course still hadn’t arrived. Plus, my husband developed a new type of adoration for me called “holy shit, my wife’s a magician”. enjoytoday

John and I were doing a freakin’ happy dance. That week alone we made $22K in sales.

A month later we raked in a cool $133K in profits. We were like teenagers getting drunk for the first-time…giddy and stupid. Just 5 months earlier I was teaching high school Biology for a degrading $2K a month paycheck. Now I was earning over $25K a week.

Since then, I’ve focused entirely on online marketing and it’s been the golden ticket to consistently earning high six-figures profits every year. It’s enabled me to travel the world, work form home, live wherever I feel like it, donate hundreds of thousands, work when I want and not when I don’t, create multiple businesses, etc. etc. etc. Get the picture? It’s bliss.

It’s not as easy now as it was in 2003.

In 2003, I was the only direct sales gal online. No one else was really building their network marketing business using the web. Sad but true. I didn’t know how to create a high-converting squeeze page, I was just the only girl on the block doing it. I was an innovator and people thought I was nuts. Totally cool with me. I loved how they told me it was a mistake while I made a fortune.

Until it crashed. Seriously. Google Adwords decided they hated direct sales companies and turned my account off. Lead count? 300 to zero in 60 seconds flat.

That’s when I realized that in order to keep my lead flow going, I had to become super adept at predicting changes, diversifying, and leveraging different marketing streams. How people got to my site changed.

What didn’t change was how I created my sites.

By that point, I had gotten really good and had a great understanding of how to create a high-converting squeeze page. The formula is pretty basic and common-sense. Admittedly, I was a bit surprised that I didn’t have to change how I created my sites, just the traffic sources. The methods used to create high-converting websites remained stable and true.

The Most Important Step to Creating High-Converting Websites

First, you have know your audience. You have to know who your creating the website for. This will determine your language, colors, images, amount of text, and structure of the site.

Men in their 20’s will respond very differently than men in their 40’s. Women who are mothers will respond differently than women who aren’t. Men who make $30K a year will respond to different language and structure than men who bring home $100K or more. Executive women will respond to different language than women who are housewives.

Know the demographics, understand their problems, get clear on how they like to be spoken to and what attracts them.

Then, Offer Something They Really Want

If you understand the problems of your ICA, then you’ll understand what solutions you can offer. This is super important when learning and implementing how to create a high-converting squeeze page. Giving your audience a freebie (e-book, video, mini-course, etc) that helps them solve a smaller problem entices them to opt-in to your list, get your freebie, and have a win with it. This alone helps to build trust and rapport with your list members. Then you can offer your course, services, or products that help solve their bigger problems.

Use imagery with your freebie offer. Have your offer look incredibly amazing and super valuable to your target audience.

Craft Your Content Using Language They Would Use

When you create a headline or body text that contains the exact same language your audience is using, it appeals directly to them. How do you get this information? Survey, scour Facebook groups, analyze tweets. This is called market research and it’s vitally important to the success of your lead generation page and offer.

Once you have this data, use the words in a headline, in the body copy, in videos you create. Speaking in your audiences’ own words connects you to them, it makes YOU and your offer real.

Structure Your Site

Here’s where you get to create. If you’re brand new to the web, I highly recommend using LeadPages or ClickFunnels to create your opt-in pages. Both of these tools are super easy to use, have pre-designed templates, and give you flexibility to customize and create your magical content. There’s a few rules to follow when you are creating your pages:

  1. Stick with the colors your ICA (Ideal Customer Avatar – a mocked-up representation of the person who ideally will buy from you) How to create a high-converting squeeze pageconnects with. Don’t use more than 2 – 3 colors on your site.
  2. Don’t use more than two fonts on your site and stick with fonts your ICA will connect with.
  3. Try to keep the Opt-In button “above the fold”. This means that someone would not have to scroll down to see it.
  4. Create mystery and desire with your squeeze page copy. Don’t satisfy it. You want people to opt-in before getting the solutions to their problems.
  5. Use images or video. Video is the highest converting option.
  6. Create a Thank You page that matches the opt-in page. Use the space on your thank you page well. Include social media share buttons, testimonials, etc.

Once your site is done, set up a Split Test.

I’m often asked how I create high-converting opt-in pages that get opt-in rates as high as 60%. I test. Seriously, I create split test after split test until I have the perfect combination of colors, images, button location, etc. Once it’s tested, then it’s golden and I use it until I find an even better solution. With both LeadPages and ClickFunnels you can easily create great pages. Have fun with it. Be sure to only change one variable so you really know what made the difference. I talk about this in the Booming Business Funnel Checklist.

Test It Before You Use it.

Once your page is completed, be sure to opt-in yourself to test that everything is working. Once you’ve verified that your opt-in form is working and you’ve received the email you’ve set up to deliver your freebie, then it’s time to deliver it to the world. Wondering if Twitter is worth your time? Or what it can do for your business?

At the beginning of 2015, I didn’t give a hoot about Twitter (gasp!). Quite frankly, it wasn’t even on my radar. I was knees deep in Facebook Ads, Instagram and direct traffic to promote my business. I wasn’t really sure what Twitter was or how one would use it to promote themselves or their business. It looked like a big waste of time to me.

That all changed when three things happened:

  1. Periscope was unleashed. I LOVE IT, use it, and promote with it. It’s directly connected to Twitter so I knew I needed to start building a following and learn it.
  2. Facebook shut down my ads account. Yes. It really did happen. After two nights of cold sweats, I decided I’d look at other social media platforms to get my lead gen back on track.
  3. I met Jennifer Lehner in Freedom Hackers Mastermind.

Jen’s not your typical “guru”.

She’s about the humblest person I’ve met. She’s not prone to bragging about her extraordinary skills on Twitter or her uncanny ability to know about the latest-greatest social media tool before anyone else does. That’s why I’m her biggest fan. JEN IS THE BOMB. Her Facebook Group, the Front Row, is an amazing community where you’ll learn about everything that’s new in digital marketing.

I spotted a post from Jen online and asked her if she would show me Periscope. We had never met and at that point weren’t even “friends”. Still, she said YES! The next day, we spent an hour on Skype and she walked me through Periscope. Since then, I’ve sold more than $30K of my Periscope Mastery course…and I give Jen all the credit. I would never had been able to show you how to use Periscope to successfully promote your business, gain more followers, create online influence, and more if she hadn’t been the first to give me the scoop! She knows her stuff inside and out. So, when Facebook turned me off, my next question to her was:

Happy New Year!!! What an exciting time.

No matter how your year went last year, you’ve just stepped into a brand new year, a new experience, and a clean slate from which to create your best year ever. It’s the most exciting time of the year…a fresh start, a time to focus on creating and manifesting abundance, success, prosperity, happiness, and everything else you want for this year.

It’s a Time For Setting Powerful New Year’s Resolutions and Achieving Them

Far too often, we hit January 1st with New Year’s Resolutions and really don’t put any intention towards accomplishing them or following through with planned and focused action. This leads to failure, a loss of believe in ourselves, and a lack of positive gain or results.

This year, I invite you to really think on what you want before formulating your New Year’s Resolutions. Instead of just spouting out some ho-hum “wants”, concentrate on New Year’s Resolutions you are truly willing and excited to go after. Create resolutions that you can further define into goals, establish action plans for, and carry out with intention. Is it just me, or does it seem like December 31st landed in your lap way too fast? This year went by wickedly fast.

As I sit here chugging down my home-made super nutritious mocha latte (seriously…I’ve hacked mochas and make them healthy…recipe below!), I’m looking back at everything that I’ve experienced, accomplished, didn’t quite win with, etc. and there’s some pretty cool, and really surprising lessons I’ve learned.

What better way to end the year than to share these lessons with you!

On January 1st, I decided this year was going to be my year of TRANSFORMATION.

I rang in the New Year at 40. Just a few short weeks earlier, I traumatically lost my 2nd child at 5 months pregnant. We were super excited about the baby, a boy, and had already told our friends, family, neighbors…and our daughter. Telling her the baby wasn’t coming after all was one of the toughest days of my life. She was only 4 and didn’t really grasp the concept of death.

That Christmas I drowned myself in wine and cookies. When the New Year arrived, I knew I had to pull up my big girl pants and get on with life. So, I decided to get into action.

I had two big intentions in the beginning of the year:

  1. Get clear on the purpose, vision, products and direction of my business.
  2. Become a better person…the person I would like to be for the rest of my life.

When I set these intentions, I knew I was willing to give 100% of myself to them. I had decided this is what was needed to get the results I wanted for myself and my family.

When setting your intentions, don’t be so-so about it…be decisive. Decide on what you are REALLY willing to commit to and give extra effort and action towards.

Okay…so let me break this down for you.

I’ve been in business since 2002 and my business has evolved over time. We’ve been wildly successful at times and wildly financially frustrated at times. In 2012 we went through bankruptcy after enduring heavy business and real estate losses (with more than $2mil in debt). After that, I pretty much did anything that would bring in money whether or not I enjoyed it, was passionate about it, or even liked it. Nothing X-rated or illegal I assure you, but worked with clients who weren’t my favorite, did business I wasn’t empowered by…that sort of thing. Like working a job you hate just to pay the bills, get it?  Now that we were back in a financially stable place with a great six-figure income, I wanted to refine my business into one that I would again love, enjoy, and feel as thought I was serving a great purpose. I wanted my business model to be exciting, fulfilling, and very lucrative.

My second intention came about after some serious self-reflection. At 40, I really wasn’t liking who I was being in life. I was getting pretty critical, cynical, and lazy. I’ve always been a really upbeat person but life was taking it’s toll. When I lost the baby, I found myself struggling to get my MOJO back and was committed to becoming happier, more at peace, and filled with more energy than ever before.

So here’s the journey I travelled in 2015. It’s been pretty amazing, with lots of self-exploration, learning, and adventure. I’m super grateful to my loving husband for supporting me in this growth and for my amazing, beautiful, “let’s do it” daughter who traveled with me on most adventures. I’m truly blessed.

First, I had to realize that I didn’t know everything.

I did A LOT of study. I took a great number of courses including Marie Forleo’s B-School, Kimra Luna’s Rock-It With Webinars, Digital Marketer, Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University, and more. I dove in, studied, and applied. It was during this journey that I decided on the purpose and vision of my business.

I branded myself the Booming Business Strategist and decided to share my experience, know-how, and skills with other entrepreneurs to help you realize your goals, dreams, and aspirations. A friend pointed out to me that I was one of the most knowledgable and experienced entrepreneurs he knew…why wasn’t I using that in my business to help others? It was hard for me to recognize my own greatest strengths but easy for others to tell me what they thought I was great at.

After all, I HAD accomplished A LOT. I’ve personally earned millions in business, I’ve built large teams, I’ve successfully launched products online, I’m a master at lead generation, I’m an excellent speaker and trainer…

So, I surveyed. I surveyed friends, clients, and previous customers. They all said similar things: I had helped them break through an area of their life they needed help in and my advice did the trick. YES!!! I had been doing that for years but never thought to truly incorporate it into my business.

First Surprising Lesson: Recognize Your Strengths and Use Them to Empower Others

For years, I have been turning down requests from people to hire me as their coach because I didn’t want to do coaching. When I actually addressed why I didn’t want to do coaching it was because of the belief that I would have to deal with people who wouldn’t do what I told them to do. I didn’t want to fight with people on what I know to do that produces results.

In that realization, I also decided I would screen my clients and get their agreement that they would APPLY what I was teaching them. BINGO! It was the right move 😉 My main focus isn’t one-on-one coaching, but rather group coaching and online education. The few personal coaching clients I have are the ones who want FAST results and are super motivated, highly driven, and take action. It’s ridiculously rewarding to watch them BOOM!

Now, the clearly defined purpose of my business is “To Provide Valuable and Relevant Education, Training, and Coaching That Helps Business Owners Experience a Positive Result”. Cool, right? I love it. It just feels good…and on purpose. It’s aligned with my greater aspiration of making a world-wide impact in people’s personal prosperity.

Along with my redefined and realigned purpose came a new website, lots of new connects, and a ton of travel. I went to NY for Periscope Summit and made some really cool friends. I also went to the Caribbean to learn from amazing business leaders and marketers, including Grant Cardone. I’ve made so many new friendships and have great colleagues I love doing business with. I was in Los Angeles and Vegas a bunch.

I also realigned myself with network marketing. For years, I went back and forth and was living in a “Maybe” about the industry. The uncertainty was painful. I would waver back and forth, unsure if it was a good path for me. But the fact is, I LOVE the industry. I LOVE building a team and watching others flourish. I truly enjoy sharing products and a business that inspires and helps others. So…I’m back in full force as a second division of my business.

Second Surprising Lesson: Living Your Purpose is Powerful.

DO WHAT YOU LOVE. Don’t Deny It. Follow your passion and be true to yourself.

The journey this year brought me close to so many amazing people, old friends and new ones. I’m grateful for the people who have inspired me along the way, taught me something new, cheered me on, and trusted me to help them get the results they wanted.

Third Surprising Lesson: Sometimes You Don’t Get What You Expect, But You’re Still Winning.

My very first venture into business was outrageously successful. Within 16 months I had earned over $1million dollars and that pace kept on going for 7 straight years. This year, as I was launching and branding my new business, I pretty much expected that same lightening-in-a-bottle success. It didn’t quite happen that way. I’ve had some great successes but my first online course launch wasn’t as HUGE as I wanted. I expected to break through $100K in the launch and barely made it to $10K. That sent me into a wild spiral of self-defeat. I abandoned the project altogether and started creating new products, projects, etc.

Fortunately, I have some really great mentors. I was speaking with one of them about my goals for the rest of 2015 and 2016. In reviewing my “successful actions” and “unsuccessful actions”, I had a shocking revelation.  We were crunching some numbers on my launch..which I had prior refused to look at because I considered it an EPIC failure. When we looked at it, the launch cost me $2K and I made $8K. In his eyes, the launch was incredibly successful…I had earned a 400% profit on my money and I did it in 2 days of sales. I walked away from the product and gave up on it when in reality, I should have stayed with it and scaled it up.

I didn’t get what I expected but I still won. I was measuring all of my present and future results up against my past results. I was also measuring my results against other’s results. It was a big mistake and one that I won’t be making again in the future. Now, when I’ve identified successful actions, I’ll scale them up to achieve the mark I want.

Now, on to becoming a Better Person.

It was a big realization that I wasn’t happy with myself. This year, I wanted to realign myself with my love of people and love myself more. I committed to a path of personal development that eliminated the mental head noise and gave me 100% clarity on my own personal greatness. I realized that my previous experiences in life taught me that it was wrong to shine, not okay to aspire to great things, and that I should feel bad or guilty for every little thing. Once I cleared all that up, the magic and happiness of life just all fell into place. Add that to my newly aligned purpose and it’s pretty much unicorns and rainbows over here. Such a TRANSFORMATION from the end of last year.

I’m happier now than I have ever been. I’m closer to my husband and my daughter, our relationships are amazing, I’m calm and peaceful, and I’m able to think clearly.

The amount I’m able to get done is extraordinary because I feel confident, self-assured and passionate about my purpose. I regained my love of people and wouldn’t you know it, tons of new friends showed up in my life.  I’m 100% confident that I am able to help people in a powerful and certain way.

Fourth Surprising Lesson: It’s Vital To Love Yourself.

Be good to YOU. Honor your greatness. In order to help others, you need to know you CAN help them and be confident in who you are. No matter how great your plans are, in my opinion, it’s hard to make great strides in life if you’re not okay with you. So, do what you need to to get on a path of truly loving yourself.

As part of my self-growth journey, I also eliminated the news, negative TV shows, negative friends, and anything else that didn’t leave me feeling awesome and empowered. What a difference that has made!

What’s next for 2016?

My plans are BIG for this year…like multiple 7-figures BIG.  I just launched the Booming Business Podcast last night and already that’s going nuts…people are excited about that! I’ve planned out 24 episodes already, so look forward to some amazing content and training!

In addition, I plan to launch a new updated and expanded version of the Booming Business Funnel course that will be called Booming Business Academy. Look forward to that at the end of February/beginning of March. I opened up a limited coaching practice for individuals who want fast results in their life and business and that’s almost filled up.

I’m planning on writing a book this year and a movie (screenplay). Bet the screenplay part shocked you, huh? It’s totally new to me, but my friend Jen and I have an amazing storyline that we’er super excited to get out to the world. It’s a comedy, of course.

I also want to have another baby…er…babies. Pregnancy is definitely in the immediate future and I’m praying for twins. I know, I know…you probably think I’m psycho, but I’ll be 42 in January and want at least 3 kids, so why not have two at once. And a nanny!

I want to travel even more this year, but internationally. Ireland, Argentina, Australia, and some tropical beaches are all on my list.

I plan on building a huge team of leaders in my NM company. That’s going to be a lot of fun!

This year, my focus is “A Balanced Life AND A BOOMing Business”. It’s the title of my hugely successful e-book and the theme I’m choosing for 2016.

Yay! It’s the first episode of the Booming Business Podcast. Admittedly, I’ve broken out the champagne, am feeling a little tipsy, and am minutes into my happy dance. This is so exciting and I’m overjoyed to share it with you!

I envisioned creating this podcast for about all of 2015…and now it’s here! Different names bounced back and forth and finally landed as the Booming Business Podcast, aligned with my personal brand and identity as the Booming Business Strategist.

My idea for this podcast was a way to give back, empower, motivate, inspire, and give “the goods” on what’s working right now.

If you read my previous posts, you’ve learned quite a bit about Periscope and how it’s changing the face of online marketing & advertising.

The Periscope App team is working hard to keep the app BOOMING, including the changes they made today.

They are a GAME-CHANGER for the Periscope App and open up a whole world of new possibilities.

But, there are some limitions…so let’s get into it.

What the Periscope App Changed/Updated

You can watch my short 10 minute Periscope by clicking here…I pretty much cover everything I’m writing about here, except for some newly discovered limitations.

Here’s the updates:

  • New landscape mode…YES!!! You can now start and maintain your Scopes in landscape mode vs. portrait mode. This is AMAZING for doing interviews, sharing groups, etc. If you have a wide-angle lens for your iPhone, you could pretty much get an entire room in the shot.  Here’s quick snapshot to show you the difference between Portrait and Landscape.

  • You can now share your favorite Periscopes (like MINE…hint, hint!) on Facebook.

  • Now, you can copy the link to the Periscope if you want to share it in an e-mail, text, or some other media format. Pretty cool, right?

So what could possibly be the problem with the Periscope App updates???

Personally, I think the new changes are rocking…except for a few snags.

First, if you’re going to do your Periscope in Landscape, Katch.me isn’t going to flow with it. Literally, your landscape Periscope video feed will be recorded in Portrait Mode sideways. YUCK!!!

I ran into this snag today when I downloaded my Katch.me recording on the Periscope updates. I was pretty disappointed because here’s how it looked…

Blah-ha-ha-ha!!! You’ll see the video goes SIDEWAYS…

That meant some extra editing time to get the video right to post on YouTube and my other social media accounts. Not that much fun while I’m in Aruba ;-(

The final edited version came out nice, but if you’re not an editing whiz (or don’t want to spend the time doing it), keep your Periscopes in Portrait mode for now or save to your phone. BTW, I use Camtasia for editing these videos (in case you were wondering).

If you get a little adventuresome with your Scopes and flip-flop from portrait to landscape, you’re still going to have to edit if you want to have a cool branded background on your Scopes like I have in the YouTube version above…otherwise you’ll have blank space around your portrait sized Periscope in a 16:9 video on YouTube.

Sorry Android Users…Your Periscope App Updates Aren’t Here Yet

Come on guys…it’s time to make the leap and get your IOS device (you can leave me your hater comments below…hahahaha). Fact is, most apps are developed for IOS first and so are the updates. Same thing is true for the Periscope App.

The updates are out for IOS devices but Android users will have to wait a few days (or weeks) to catch up. I know, I know… you’re going to convince me how cool your Samsung is, but my iPhone still gets all the cool stuff first.

What’s Facebook going to do about Periscope’s new share feature?

I’m interested to see how Facebook is going to respond to the shared Periscopes. I don’t think I’m sharing any deep dark secrets when I tell you that Facebook manipulates how data is shared in your feeds.

Given that they are now testing their own LiveStreaming features in Facebook Pages, I think it’s fair to say they may come up with some funky algorithms that limit the exposure of the shared Periscopes. I’m just guessing here, but if they are serious about launching their own LiveStream app, I don’t think they’re going to be on-board with the ultimate promo of someone else’s Live Streaming application.

Okay…so obviously I’m HOT HOT HOT on Periscope.

(and today I did my first BLAB ;-))

I’ve been on Periscope about 3 weeks now and it’s #BOOMING my business.

I’ve gotten free leads, more sales, new clients, and have expanded my brand presence faster than with any other marketing avenue.

If you’re not doing it, you SHOULD BE and COULD BE.

THE LESSON FOR TODAY ON HOW TO USE PERISCOPE IS:

Unlike learning Facebook Ads, Twitter Ads, Google Adwords, Instagram, etc. etc., how to use Periscope is fairly simple.

  • Download the free app.
  • Set up your profile.
  • Start a Periscope live stream.

That gets you Rocking-and-Rolling on Periscope. Shockingly simple, I know, but….Learning A New Marketing Platform Can Be Simple, Easy, and FAST!

Periscope isn’t very complicated and it’s easy to get started. In a nutshell, those three steps are how to use Periscope. BUT…there are some great tips you can follow to use Periscope like a Pro to #BOOMYourBusiness.

I lay them all out in the Periscope Mastery course. Everything from how to create engaging “have to watch” titles to “how to repurpose your Periscope recordings”, plus everything in-between.

Today, in my How to Use Periscope Series, I’ve got a GREAT expert interview.

In this podcast, I’m bringing Social Media expert Jennifer Lehner to the stage to share her insights on how to use Periscope and how this app is changing the face of social media marketing.

Just a few short weeks ago, I hopped on a Facebook Mastermind group and saw Jen talking about Periscope.  I’m not shy about these things, so I promptly asked her if she would spend some time showing me how to use it.

Wouldn’t you know it, she said “YES!” That’s how it goes, “Ask and ye shall receive.” (You just have to do the asking!!!).
